bus

This really a “for”. It was coined in France in the early 19th century phrase voiture omnibus, literally “conveyance for all”. The Latin omni meant “all”, and omnibus meant “for all”. It was shortened to just the word ending, which took on the whole meaning of the conveyance. The English translation gave rise to the famous quote "you wait an hour for a number forty-four for to come and then four number forty-four fors come at the same time". This became so confusing that people eventually reverted to bus.
